31 January 2020 – Universiti Putra Malaysia rugby team set to defend their title in 2020 Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (MASUM). The tournament starts tomorrow with UPM Serdang Angels set to compete with another 10 universities.
UPM Serdang Angels is the rugby champion in the last 6 edition. They won it in 2014 and did not let the title slip from their hand in the last 6 years.
The 2019 edition saw Angels overcame their rivals Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM Lions) in the classic final. Both teams went all the way with Angels came out top with 36 – 16 scoreline at the final whistle.
Angels manager, Md Zyuraidi Abdul Majid is happy to welcome back 4 national 7s players to his squad. “We will have Ameer Nasrun, Dzafran Asyraaf, Azwan Zuwairi and Wan Izzuddin in our squad. They certainly add great quality to the team.”
Angels is expected to cruise from Pool A as they will take on Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI Eagles) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM Jokers) in the first 2 days.
UiTM Lions is expected to challenge for the title. They are in pool B and face stern competition from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (IIUM Mustangs), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM Bandits) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
Universiti Malaya (UM) will be the team to lead Pool C. They are with Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM).
The first match set to start at 8.30 on 1st February. It will be held on 2 different location, UiTM Arau and KV Arau. The final match is being scheduled to take place on 6th February 2020.
