70% completion

12 January 2020 – With less than 6 months before the start of the 2020 SUKMA Johor, the construction of the new rugby stadium is now at 70% completion. The brand new stadium is part of the Mount Austin Sports City, 20km away from Johor Bahru.

The Malaysia Rugby Union Vice President who is also the Union Director of Competition, Md Fahmy Jalil spend his evening visiting the site accompanied by General Manager of Johor Rugby Union, Mohd Norfazreim Bin Imran. Fahmy is delighted with the progress. “We are happy with what we see. The progress is in line with the plan. JRU, as well as KPRJ, give full co-operation for the project”

The stadium is being scheduled to be handover by the end of February 2020. “We are happy with the progress. We are hoping it will be complete and handover to the Stadium Corporation by the end of this February.” shared Norfazreim. He also added, “If everything goes as plan, we will have the final match of Johor Rugby League 2020 as well as SUKMA Close Invitational 7s here as part of the plan to test the venue.”

Johor will be the host 2020 SUKMA which is scheduled to start on 11 July 2020 until 19 July 2020. The rugby match will take place from 13th to 15 July 2020. Johor will be hoping to grab Gold in both Men and Women as they failed to do so back in 2018 in Perak.
