28 teams for Monsoon

12 December 2019 – 28 teams will be in Mersing this weekend as they are ready to rumble in the Monsoon 7s Rugby Challenge. The tournament is set to take place at SMK Sri Mersing, Mersing.


12 teams will be in the Under 14 categories. They are in 3 groups of 4 where the qualification for the Cup knockout round will be base on ranking. The top 8 is set to compete in the Cup/Plate quarter-final with the 9 to 12 will be in Bowl.

As for Under 16, 16 teams will be playing in 4 groups of 4. The knockout round is also based on the ranking with the top 8 will be in Cup/Plate while the bottom 8 will be in Bowl/Shield.

Tournament host, SMK Sri Mersing is one of the teams to look for in both Under 14 and Under 16 categories. They are having an outstanding year with the Under 16 teams had won the Lions – Bengals Rugby 10s Challenge last month while their Under 14 team had finished as runner-up in the same event.

Bengals RC will be looking to repay SMK Sri Mersing involvement in their competition as they are sending 4 teams, 2 in each category.

Top seeded, SSTMI Tsunami will be handful for the other team in the Under 16. They are set to test a brand new set of players, set to make the debut with the Sports School.

The 2 day tournament will be streamed live on 3 platforms.
