Settle for Silver

8 December 2019 – Malaysia 7s team have to settle for Silver in the 2019 Philippines SEA Games. Malaysia went down to the host, Philippines in the final.


The physical advantage for Philippines proved to be the different with the Volcanoes put Rimau 7s under pressure from the first minutes. Both teams played with 6 players for a moment as they received yellow card. Philippines took full advantage when they were back with 7 players to score the first try. They scored their second at the end of the first half to lead 14 – 0.

Malaysia 7s started the second half on fire and managed to pressure Philippines in their own 5 meter lines. That ,however, backfire the team as quick counter attack from the Philippines saw Anwarul Hafiz yellow carded. The resulting incident open the gap for Philippines to score their 3rd try.

Saizul Hafifi’s boys did everything the could to break the host but Philippines hold firm to deny them. Malaysia lost the final 0 – 19.

This is the second time Malaysia won silver as they first won back in 2015 in Singapore, losing to the same opponent in the final.

Muhammad Azwan Zuwairi finished the tournament with the highest total points scored with 51. He collected the points from 5 tries and 13 conversions
