21 November 2019 – The 2nd semi final of the 2019 Agong Cup had it all. Great tries, amazing runs, big hits and crunching tackles by both Terengganu and Johor.
The repeat of 2017 finals saw Terengganu celebrates after the final whistle. Terengganu started the match with positive notes as Faris Pead finished the move to give Terengganu the lead in the 6th minutes. Faizal Md Tahir who contributed 19 points in this match coolly slotted home the conversion as Terengganu lead 7 – 0. That did not last long as Johor hit back through Aminio Naseyara’s try 3 minutes later. Aminio started his first match in the campaign as he recovered from injury. Razmi Rozan added 2 more points from the conversion.
Faizal Md Tahir made sure Terengganu retake the lead with additional 3 points from the penalty. That, however, ignited Johor as they lead the match for the first time with Kolinio Tamanitoakula putting his name on the score sheet. Johor extended the lead with 2 more points from Razmi Rozan.
Johor had to play with 14 men in the 30th minutes of the match after as Siqeli Qau Qau yellow carded. Terengganu took full advantage of that as Josaia Takarua scored Terengganu second try. Faizal Md Tahir did not disappoint as he added 2 more. It was all about Terengganu until Johor hit back with the last play of the match as Kolinio scored his second try in the match. Johor lead 21 – 20 at the end of the first half thanks to Razmi Rozan conversion.
The second half started with Terengganu made full use of every possible chance to score point. Faizal Md Tahir put Terengganu in front from another penalty kick. Things look dark and gloomy for Terengganu as prop, Lawrence Petrus who came in as a subs red carded after an off ball incident. Md Asraf Md Nor also received yellow card from that. Terengganu extended the lead after Faizal Md Tahir completed the penalty from the 50 meters distance.
A man advantage was fully utilised by Johor as Siqeli Qau Qau broke free as to draw the point level. Josia Tokarua played one of his finest game in this year campaign for Terengganu as he added 5 more points with another try. A beautiful cross-kick by Aminio secured by Zaiheri Zumardi as Johor leveled the points again with 7 minutes to go.
Terengganu worked hard to be in possession as they head into the last 5 minutes of the match. Their hard work paid off as Jefri Mustafa awarded them with a penalty. Faizal Md Tahir coolly slotted home the kick as Jefri blew the final whistle.
Terengganu will be playing in the final against Sabah as they are aiming to become the Agong Cup champion for the very first time. The final match is being scheduled to take place this Saturday at Stadium UPM with kick off is set at 4.00pm
