14 October 2019 – Japan is making history after they advance to the knockout round of the 2019 Rugby World Cup. It is a proud moment for Asian to see the host winning all their group match to finish top of Pool A and book the quarter final showdown against South Africa.
That great news could also bring joy for Malaysia in the Asia Rugby Championship. Japan achievement in the World Cup is likely to make them skip the Asia Rugby Championship in 2020. Malaysia could retain their Premier team status should the play-off match against Division 1 champion, Philippines materialise.
Bunga Raya lost all their 4 Premier matches in 2019. However, they showed significant improvement compared to what they gave back in 2018. Brad Mika’s boys gave their all and almost cause an upset as they came close to beat eventual winner, Hong Kong at their home ground.
It will be a great news for Bunga Raya supporters who will be eager to see the boys in action by the end of the year. They should also be in great shape as Brad Mika could also use the ongoing Agong Cup to select his best side to represent Malaysia.
There’s no official news on the official announcement from Asia Rugby or Malaysia Rugby Union at the moment but we are expecting to have it as soon as the 2019 World Cup in Japan end.
