Hafifi hopes time on his side

14 October 2019 – It was slippery and it was not the day for Saizul Hafifi to remember as he slipped, forcing him to go under the knife for immediate surgery on his knee. Saizul fell down and his knee hit the edge of the drain.

“Doctor expected me to be able to walk back in two weeks time.” shared Saizul Hafifi as contacted via WhatsApp. That two weeks will be vital as he will miss two weeks of Malaysia 7s training session. Saizul had Patella Fractures Repair Surgery, to repair the fractured knee cap on his right leg, the same leg he had Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Surgery back in 2011 when he was still active as a player.

Saizul had his surgery at Ara Damansara Medical Centre.

Saizul Hafifi will be hoping for his assistant, Mohamad Nazeer bin Mohamed Nasherah, better known as Black to take over his job for a while. “I will have to limit my movement if I want to recover in time. I will draft the training plan and Black will deliver it to the team,” added Saizul.

Both Saizul Hafifi certainly have a great mutual understanding, having work together for numbers of time. They lead the team to gain promotion to the 2020 Asia Sevens Series after they guided the team to win the Asia 7s Trophy in Indonesia earlier this year.

Saizul Hafifi will be racing with time to be at the field side as the team will need to continue their preparation to compete in the Asia Rugby 7s Olympic Qualifier Tournament which is set to take place in Incheon, South Korea on the 23 & 24 November 2019.

They also need to keep an eye to their target this year to retain the gold medal they won at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games as the upcoming SEA Games set to take place in Philippines at the end of the year.
