Pahang push for Division 2 play-off

13 October 2019 – Lady luck was smiling for Pahang in this year Agong Cup. The match week 2 prove to be the most important for both Pahang and Putrajaya in their quest but the battle was cut short, 3 minutes into the second half as the bad weather forced the referee of the day, Raimee Mansur to stop the game. Pahang won that match 7 – 5.

That match meet the pre-game expectation as both teams battle for possession since the first whistle. It was Putrajaya who grab a slight advantage and their persistence was rewarded with the first try of the match through Bakewa Navitalai in the 21st minute. Luqman Hakim bin Abu Hassan however failed to add more point as he slipped as he took the conversion.

Putrajaya proved to be a way harder opponent for Pahang and they struggled to find their feet and dominate as what they did to Melaka in previous game. Pahang finally manage to find a breakthrough, late in the game after a great work from Muhammad Faridzal Ismail forced Putrajaya to defend in their 5 metres line before Ratu Maika finished the move to draw the match. Mohd Amir Aswad Mat Saad‘s conversion proved to be the decider as the 2 additional points seperated the two teams. On his personal battle, Amir Aswad beat his brother, Mohd Amir Hadafi bin Mat Saat who also starts for Putrajaya as the flyhalf

Pahang beat Putrajaya 7 – 5 as Raimee blew the final whistle 35 minutes after the game stop, 3 minutes into the second half. Pahang is now leading the Division 2 Pool A with 8 maximum points, will face Selangor in their last match while Putrajaya will entertain Melaka in match week 3. Should Pahang win their last game, they will face Polis Diraja Malaysia Malaysia who topped the Pool B after they strolled pass Pulau Pinang 61 – 12.
