13 October 2019 – Johor recorded their first win of the campaign when they got better of the young Kelantan side yesterday. They produced a much better display to score 7 tries and managed to keep their gate close and avoid Kelantan from having any.
Siqeli Qauqau recorder 2 more tries, making it to 5 for Johor in this campaign. His powerful run proved to be too much for Kelantan, who fielded in all local young players. Ratu Timoci Daurua, Mohd Zaiheri Zumardi, Ahmad Zulhelmi Azizad and Muhammad Eirfan Qayyum Junaidy also made it to points sheet as they scored a try each.
Kelantan only managed to score points, late in the game. The 6 points came from penalty spot with former Malaysia 7s trainee, Muhammad Nazir Assari completed both kicks with 3 minutes from the full time.
That win however, was not enough for Johor to leapfrog Kelantan as Kelantan have a much bigger point different. Things however is expected to change in match week 3 when Kelantan travels to Kuala Terengganu to face the current leader Terengganu in their last pool match. Terengganu sits comfortably at the top when they recorded the biggest win of the campaign as they trashed Kedah 118 – 0 in the match that took place at Stadium Suka Menanti, Alor Star. Kedah will welcome Johor at the same venue next week.
