Solid SRDP succeed in Singapore

1 October 2019 – SSTMI Rugby Development Programme (SRDP) powered through the Tanglin RC Cup to lift the Under 12 categories. The Johor base team was certainly in their own class as the dominate opponent from Singapore and Hong Kong.

SRDP won all the 3 group matches, with multiple tries in each match. They also managed to keep their gate close as they did not let a single point went pass them. SRDP beat Centours, Sai Kung Stingrays and the host Tanglin RC in the group stage.

Hong Kong Babas became the first team to break through SRDP in the quarter final. However, it was not good enough as SRDP won the match 15 – 5. They met Sai Kung Stingrays for the second time in the semi-final with SRDP secured the final spot with 20 – 5 win.

Amazingly, SRDP recorded their biggest win in the final. SRDP steamrolled Centours 53 – 0 for them to lift the TRC Cup Under 12 title.

SRDP players and management

SRDP consists of the Under 12 players from school all over Johor and managed as well as coach by teachers of those school. They also benefited with their link to Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School who provide expertise through Syed Shazril Syed Mahadzir, coach of SSTMI.

The other team who compete in the TRC Cup U12 is D’Rhinos from Malacca. They finished 7th.
