15 June 2019 – Malaysia recorded first ever point in the Asia Rugby Championship Premier today. The match week 4 of the ARC saw Bunga Raya came short in the hard fought match against host as Hong Kong recorded their second win of the campaign with 30 – 24 scoreline.
Malaysia was first to break the deadlock with Etonia Saukuru try with 5 more additional points from Fairuz Abdul Rahman kicks which put Malaysia in the lead. Hong Kong dominate the remaining of the first half as they produced 2 tries, a conversion and a penalty to lead the first half with the 15 – 10 scoreline. The second half start as Hong Kong continue to dominate as they add 2 more tries.
Malaysia refused to give up as Badrul Muktee chased down Fairuz Rahman kick, forcing Hong Kong to conceed a scrum in their own 5 meter line. The scrum open up chance for Etonia to add his second try of the game. Fairuz certainly has his kicking boot on as another kick was chase down by Badrul Muktee before the link up play between Badrul and Fairuz created chance for Sakiusa Gavidi to open his try account.
Hong Kong decided to kill of the 3 points game as they took the penalty with 2 minutes to go. Malaysia fall short at the final whistle with 24 – 30 scoreline.
The 6 points gap however award Malaysia first ever point in the Asia Rugby Championship Premier match. The bonus point was awarded as Malaysia lost the match with less than 7 points scoreline.
Malaysia will face Hong Kong in the return leg in a week time. Bunga Raya will host Hong at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on the 22nd June 2019. Kick off is scheduled to take place at 8.00pm.
Hong Kong is on the top of the table with 10 points, above South Korea on a points different with a game in hand while Malaysia is third with a single point.
