Saizul satisfied with Bangkok outing

30 April 2019 – Malaysia head coach, Saizul Hafifi is satisfied with the Malaysia 7s performance during their outing at the Bangkok 7s Invitational. Malaysia had 8 test matches against other South East Asia nations over the two days.

It did not start very well on Saturday as Malaysia lost 10 – 19 to the Thailand A team. The Thai team lead 19 – 0 at one point before the Hibiscus 7s managed to get two tries before the end of the match.

“The majority of the starting players for the first match are still new to the team. We start the match with Joseph Gordon, Sofian Kamil, Mohammad Hezry and Azizul Hakim in the first seven lineups. Zulhisham Rasli who just returned to the team as he was absent before this due to his personal issue was also playing, the first tournament for Zulhisham this year”, shared Saizul when asked about the defeat.

Bangkok 7s Invitational result

The first match was the only defeat to the team over 2 days. The team progress well and managed to win the remaining 7 matches.

Thailand had 2 teams during the test match while another 2 teams were Singapore and Laos.

Saizul added “We used this chance to test the new players as well as their position. We also used the chance to analyse Thailand and Singapore before the SEA Games in Philippines by the end of the year.

The team will later travel to Japan as they will continue the preparation for the 2019 SEA Games as well as the Asia Rugby Trophy.
