KK Rugby League is in the 5th edition

7 February 2019 – Kasi Group Kota Kinabalu Rugby League 2019 will see the league return for the 5th edition. The league which started 4 years ago will fill in the rugby calendar as well as enliven the rugby activity in Sabah.

This year edition received full support from the KASI Group who have been sponsoring the league in the previous edition. KASI Group CEO, Datuk Captain Walter Nair and his son Benjamin Nair share the same opinion about the sport. “Helping sponsor this League is a social responsibility that will benefit the form of sports activities and also build good discipline and goodwill through sports.”

This year league will see 11 teams from all around Kota Kinabalu, Papar, Keningau as well as university team and Uniform Unit team.

For the record, Sabah OSCA Warriors became the champion in the 2018 edition as the overcame KK Sharks 29 – 14 in the final match. Because of that, OSCA Warriors is the league top seed and will lead Pool A alongside 4 other teams while KK Sharks is in Pool B.

Group A consists of Sabah OSCA Warriors, Sabah OSCA Warriors Pangaits, Keningau Crocs, Papar Lions and Universiti Malaysia Sabah while Group B comprises KK Sharks, SABORC, Putatan Scorpionz, Rugby Monsters, Navy Orca and Sabah Prison (PRIDE RUGBY).

The league will start in less than a week time with the first match is being scheduled to kick off this coming 16th February 2019. The league will be using 3 different venues, 2 of it are the SUKMA Rugby Field while the third is set to take place at the Field D, Univeristy Malaysia Sabah.

The tournament receive strong support from KASI Groups as the main sponsor with help from several other sponsors namely KK Drinks SDN. BHD., Kuckreja Malaysia, Rugger District, Ararat Sports & Souveniers and Ragbi Online as official match system provider.

The Sabah Rugby Union president has high hopes that this tournament can become a platform for players to showcase their talent to be included into Sabah team as well as to continue developing and expending rugby in the land below the wind.
