Amir to lead Malaysia 15s

5 February 2019 – Malaysia Under 15 team will be under the management after Malaysia Rugby Union has announced Mr. Amir Amri bin Mohammad. Amir Amri will be in charge to prepare the national team for the upcoming Asia Rugby Championship 2019.

He is no stranger to the national team setup. Amir worked his wonder back in 2017 when he managed the Men 7s squad to grab gold in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

Amir Amri has been working hard to Malaysia as well as serving his birth state, Terengganu. He is the current president for Terengganu Rugby since 2014. His leadership value brings glory as Terengganu became the champion of National 7s in 2017. Terengganu also came close to lift the trophy in 15s but they fall short on two occasions, with runner-up title for Agong Cup in 2014 and 2016.

Amir Amri certainly knows what the union want from his as he is the vice-president for Malaysia Rugby Union since 2017.

It is different sort of challenge for him to take over the national team. 2018 was not a year to remember as Malaysia unable to put a fight in all 4 ARC matches and Amir Amri will need to make sure it is not the repeat of the same story in 2019.

“I am hoping to lead Malaysia and play our best game. Our main target is to remain in the ARC Premier”, shared Amir Amri.

Malaysia remains in the Premier Division for the second year running even though we ended 2018 dead last with 4 loses as Japan decided not to compete as they want to focus for the upcoming 2019 World Cup.

Congratulation Mr Amir Amri and very best of luck to Malaysia 15s.
