Malaysia Women to start training

17 January 2019 – 2019 will be such a busy year for the Malaysia 7s Women team. Having won the Asia Rugby 7s Trophy Women in Brunei last year, the team received the promotion to play in the Asia Rugby 7s Series.

The team will start their training session on 21st January 2019. Mr Tan Thiam Jin who managed the team to the trophy title last year will remain as the team manager. The first phase of their training session will take place at Padang Astaka, COBRA club, Petaling Jaya.

One of the team targets for 2019 should be to improve on their standing in the SEA Games. Having won the bronze back in 2017, it will be interesting to see how they can improve on that. The team have a much bigger player pool to choose from compared to what they had previously and that should a good plus point for the team to get the result.

The first series of the Asia Rugby 7s will start only in September. Malaysia Rugby initiative to give more time for women to start their practice should give them enough time to close the gap with the other 7, much more experienced team in the series. It will be

The team can shift their focus to the 2019 SEA Games in Manila at the end of the year, after their finish their Asia Rugby Olympic Qualifiers, due to take place in the second week of November.
