Young Tsunami dare to compete

10 January 2019 – With the average age of only 20 years old, SSTMI Tsunami is confident that they have the ability to compete at the highest level. Tsunami is one of the 8 teams to compete in the upcoming Malaysia Rugby League 2019 which is due to start this coming February.

Their best performance to the date was when they finished third. They will certainly wish to go one better, make it all the way to the final in the 2019 edition.

Most of the Tsunami players will be looking forward to the league, having prepared well at the end of 2018. Most of the players were on the list to represented Malaysia Under 19 team on the Asia Rugby Championship Under 19 level which took place in Thailand before the Union decided to pull out from the tournament due to unknown reason.

The team will be expecting the likes of Hafizie Sudin and Wan Azley to lead the line. Numbers of former students from the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School will also be back and play for the team. To this date, Aqib Mustammim Jailani, Sufi Hafizuddin Hadwan bin Abd Halim as well as Shah Arzril Bin Arzmi have confirmed to play for the Tsunami. Eddie Firdaus and Mohamad Shah Izwan who was part of the Malaysia Under 18 winning team are also expected to feature heavily for Tsunami in this year campaign.

Tsunami coach, Syed Shazril Syed Mahadzir admit that it will be a very hard task for them to go for the title but remains positive on their chances. “We don’t care if we have to tackle those giant Fijian players, we will give our very best shot and take any chance that comes our way” shared Syed Shazril.

The Bandar Penawar based team continue to prepare for the game as they completed their fitness test yesterday morning.
