Premier campaign during Ramadhan
7 January 2019 – Malaysia will face another challenge in the 2019 Asia Rugby Championship Premier campaign. They will play 2 matches in the holy month of Ramadhan.
More than 50% of Malaysian player is a Muslim and that can be a challenge as they will need to be fasting while playing the games.
Malaysia will start the campaign with an away fixture to Incheon. South Korea will host Malaysia in the opening match (18 May) as the game is scheduled to start at 4.30pm South Korea time.
The return fixture is being scheduled a week later. With Ramadhan come into consideration, Malaysia Rugby Union is planning to have a late evening match kickoff, at 8.00pm. The game is set to take place on 25th May 2019.
Malaysia third match is away at Hong Kong on 15 June, with Malaysia set to welcome Hong Kong a week later, on 22nd June 2019.
Malaysia will need a major improvement if they wish to avoid relegation in this year Asia Rugby Championship Premier campaign. They finished third and last, winless in the 2018 campaign. South Korea and the campaign winner, Hong Kong proved to be too strong for the fearless red Hibiscus.
Malaysia retains the Premier status as Japan will not compete in the campaign as they prepared for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Japan is the only country from Asia qualified to the biggest rugby event in the world
