8 July 2018 – Tun Hussein Onn Johor State Sports School Tun (THOR) showed their domination and beat the tournament host, SMK Tuanku Muhammad in the final. They had 100% record in the one-day tournament, winning both groups matches as well as cruised with 2 big wins en route to the final.
THOR scored 11 tries at the group stage before adding another 19 tries in the knockout round. They recorded the biggest win in the semi-final as THOR trashed Hooligan RC 60 – 0 to set up the final showdown against the host.
SMK Tuanku Muhammad also had a good morning session with 2 wins out of two in the group stage. KL Saracens was the only team to go through TMS as to score try although that did not stop TMS from winning the quarter-final match 27 – 7. TMS then beat another favourite team, SMK Seri Mersing 12 – 0 to advance to the final.
The final match was balanced as anticipated but THOR used their experience well to score 3 tries as well as a solitary conversion to beat TMS 17 – 0. Muhammad Akkim Makmar scored 2 tries while the team captain, Muhammad Rafnan Shah Rizal scored the try and completed the conversion. All the try came in the first half.
TMS change their plan for the second half and maximise their forward players which put THOR on the backfoot. The score remained 17 – 0 as THOR put their defensive masterclass to perfection and win the title. The team from Johor did not let a single try passed them throughout the tournament.
THOR became the first ever winner of the TMS 10s Under 13 – Laman Gentam Cup. This is the second title for their Under 13 team as they are also the champion of NRDP 7s in UPM last February.
