Mersing edge THOR for title

3 July 2018 – SMK Seri Mersing emerged as the NRDP SMSS 7s Under 14 champion. Mersing overcame the favourite, SSN Johor Tun Hussein Onn (THOR) in the final.

In the all Johor team encounter, a successful conversion proved to be the difference between the two team. THOR came into the tournament as the favourite, having previously won the Under 14 category at NRDP Carnival and Raja Melewar earlier this year. THOR overcame another Johor school, Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar while Sri Mersing beat Malay College Kuala Kangsar in the semi-final.

Mersing had a much better start and their effort rewarded with the try from Mohd Amin Masri. Daniel Mukhriz added 2 more points as he slots home the conversion. The score remained 7 – 0 until the end of the first half.

THOR gave everything the had in the second half and their passion fruitful with Syafiq Wahid try. They, however, failed to complete the conversion as Mersing won the match 7 – 5.

SMK Seri Mersing also brought home another trophy as Mohd Tajuddin Tuah received the award as the best player.

Johor schools show their dominance as they also emerged victorious in the Girl Under 14 categories. Convent Batu Pahat got better of SMK Tok Dor to win the Girl Under 14. They beat Tok Dor 3 – 0 in the final match. Convent Batu Pahat remained unbeaten en route to the title.
