Superior South Korea too much to handle.
20 May 2018 – Malaysia unable to secure the first win in the championship as South Korea proved to be too superior for the national side on their home soil. Dominant South Korea set the early tone with an impressive forward display which troubles Malaysia throughout the first half.
South Korea scored 5 tries and completed all the conversion to comfortably lead 35 – 0 in the first half. South Korea opened the score as early as in the first 5 minutes through Jang Seong Min try. Youn Hyung Oh add 2 more points. He had an outstanding match with 8 conversions, 1 penalty as well as 3 more points through a drop goal. He contributed 22 points for South Korea.
Sameuela Tamanisau gave something to cheer for Malaysia as he scored the first try for the Red Hibiscus. Aiman Jamaluddin stole the ball from the inside of Malaysia 22 line and showed outstanding pace to outrun South Korea winger before he provided Samuela to score the try.
South Korea regain the control and add more try in the second half. They could have more if not because of their own mistake.
Malaysia added another 2 late in the match. Aiman Jamaluddin finished a good move by Vatimio Redebe who sucked 3 Korean players which opened space for Aiman to score the try on the far side.
South Korea outmuscle Malaysia and secured their second win of the tournament. They beat Malaysia 67 – 12.
Malaysia will head to Hong Kong as next week for the last match of the campaign. They will have to step up to challenge a very strong Hong Kong side who is hoping to secure the top spot.
South Korea will face Hong Kong a week later, a match that could be the title decider. The champion of this tournament will face Cook Island in the next round of the world cup qualifiers.
