6 March 2018 – Terengganu was certainly in their own class during the weekend as they lift the Women Open Category in the NAZA National 7s Series 2018. Terengganu overcame 2017 National 7s champion, Kedah in the final match.
Terengganu was too good for the other two teams in the Pool E. They opened the campaign by scoring six tries as they trashed Johor 34 – 0. Terengganu claimed the top spot in Pool E by putting Selangor to the sword with 7 tries. They beat Selangor 39 – 7 to book semi-final spot.
ATM was no match for the well-experienced Terengganu side with more than 7 current or ex-national players in the team. Terengganu beat them 32 – 7 to book a place in the final. Kedah also had a 100% run en route to the final. They only let a single try passed them as Kedah overcame ATM 38 – 5 in the first match.
Kedah got better of Perak 24 – 0 in the second match as they sealed top spot. Despite the best effort from Johor, Kedah was certainly too strong as they ran out 17 – 0 to book the final spot.
The final match was as closed as expected. Terengganu with the mix of young and experienced player dominate the early encounter while Kedah unable to use their speed.
Tries from Aki Loh Nong Sim and Maslina Ahmad Ismail, as well as a conversion by Abbygale Rayone, gave the title to Terengganu. Kedah’s try was scored by a current national player, Wan Zufirah Mohd Nasir.
