5 March 2018 – Perak became the first winner of the newly form NAZA National 7s Series 2018. The first ever series took place at the Hang Tuah Stadium, Melaka. Perak had the perfect run to the title as they remained unbeaten throughout the first series.
Perak overcame another top team, Kedah in the final. Both teams faced one another during the group match as they were placed in the Pool B. Perak who finished as the runner-up in the 2017 National 7s in Ipoh, narrowly beat Kedah 12 – 5 in the group match. Perak did not have much problem when they faced Negeri Sembilan as they trashed them 26 – 0. Selangor unable to match a well balanced Perak team as they went down 26 – 10.
Kedah finished as the group B runner-up. They started the day with a comfortable 19 – 0 win over Negeri Sembilan before they got better off Selangor 28 – 14.
Perak was too much for Kuala Lumpur during the quarter-final. They scored 6 tries in the process as they trashed Kuala Lumpur 40 – 0. Kedah advance to the semi-final when they send 2017 National 7s champion, Kelantan to the Plate division. Kedah wins the quarter-final 14 – 5 over Kelantan.
ATM who finished top of the group A, unable to stop Kedah in the semi-final. Kedah star captain and current national player, Fairuz Abd Rahman guided his team to the final as they ran out 21 – 5 win over ATM.
In another semi-final, young Johor squad unable to match Perak experience despite giving their best shot in the match. Perak scored 4 tries and completed all 4 conversions that see the Silver Gaurus in the final.
Kedah off to a great start as they scored the first try of the final match in the second minutes. They unable to keep the momentum as Perak started to get the grip. Perak leveled the score last in the half before a successful conversion saw them took the 7 – 5 lead at the end of the half.
Perak made sure they have the match under controlled with another try 2 minutes into the second half. They added the third and last try with a minute to go. they also made it 3 out of 3 conversions to take a commanding 21 – 5 lead. Kedah managed to close the gap in the last play of the match as they scored their second try and completed the conversion.
Perak took the Series 1 Men Core title after the 21 – 12 win over Kedah in the final. Muhammad Hakim from Perak was also awarded the tournament best player award.
