11 December 2017 – Malaysia Under 19 is ready to take on the United Arab Emirates in the semi-final of the Asia Rugby Championship Under 19 – Division 1 2017. The team was celebrated by the Malaysia Rugby Union exco and Persatuan Ragbi Melaka (Baru) in a dinner at the Restoran Melayu Melaka last night.
Member of the State Council who is also the Melaka UMNO Head of Youth, YB Senator Dato Zali bin Mat Yasin also attended the dinner. He shared “We welcome any national rugby activity in Melaka. We will give full support to rugby as we realized this sports create great successful individual for Malaysia.” YB also present 3 players from Melaka lead by Muhammad Sameer with the token from Persatuan Ragbi Melaka (Baru).
Malaysia Rugby Union tournament director, Fahmy Jalil who was also present during the dinner express his believe toward this squad. He is confident that the team will go all the way to the final and win it. He wants the Malaysia Under 19 to be promoted back to the Championship and compete for the World Cup Qualifiers in 2018.
The young hibiscus also received sports tape sponsorship from the top local sports tape company, ATF Sports Taping during the dinner.
The Under 19 team is having their last preparation in Politeknik Merlimau, Melaka. They will be on the first flight to Manila on 12th December and has a day to settle down before their semi-final match against the United Arab Emirates.
The team captain, Mohammad A’aziem Badaruddin is confident his team can win the title. A’aziem is no stranger in Under 19 contingent, as he played in the 2016 tournament where Malaysia finished 4th. A’aziem is also part of Malaysia 7s Under 20 squad who compete in Asia Rugby Sevens in Hong Kong a few months back.
The team look settle and ready to compete. They are in good mental condition and happy with all the preparation before the game.
