Kedah slaughter Sarawak at MBPJ


23 August 2017 – Kedah continued their fine form as they book the semi final spot. Kedah had no problem in beating Sarawak in the first quarter final at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya. With the win, Kedah will the final round host, Terengganu in the first Semi Final at the Gong Badak Sports Complex, Kuala Terengganu.

The team from the north was comfortable from the first whistle as they set the pace for the match. Lead by the ever reliable Fairuz Abdul Rahman, Kedah showed what they got as they earned the first try in the first minute through Etonia Vaqa Saukuru. Fairuz calmly converted the conversion to give 7 – 0 lead. Etonia scored their second try 6 minutes later with Fairuz continue his fine form.

Sarawak did not let their head down. They got back in the match as Clinton Patrick scored their first try. Christopher Joshua added to more points as Sarawak reduced the gap to 7 – 14.

It was all about Kedah after that as they added two more tries, two conversions and a penalty. Both conversions and penalty were converted by Fairuz Abdul Rahman. Etonia Vaqa Saukuru scored his third personal try on 28th minutes while Prop, Akmal Abd Hamid added Kedah fourth on the half hour mark. Kedah lead 29 – 7 in the first half.

Sarawak had a much better start in the second half. They shocked Kedah with their second try through Ikhwan Musa in the 4th minutes after the restart.

Kedah who made several changes in the early second half finally got their rhythm back after 10 minutes. They scored 4 more tries and completed two conversions. Both wingers, Mohd Hafizuddin Amin and Johari Omar Junit are on the score sheet with a try each while Etonia added his fourth try for Kedah. Fairuz also added 2 more conversions as he contributed 13 points in this match.

Kedah strolled and beat Sarawak 61 – 12 after the final whistle.
