Johor excellent on their home turf

13 August 2017 – Johor had an outstanding game against Kelantan on Saturday at their own ground. Their terrific work since the start of the match rewarded them win over the team from the East Coast. Johor beat Kelantan 15 – 8 to finish top of the Group B and move into the knockout round on high after prevailed on this very tough week 3 match.

Johor settled down early and they draw the first blood as early as in the very first minute of the match. Waqaliva Jone Vukukula scored the first try of the match. The ever reliable Wan Mohd Asyraf added two more points from the resulting conversions as Johor took early 7 points lead.

Things went bad to worst to Kelantan as their key player Abduvoris Karimov suffered injury. He was replaced by Muhamad Hanis bin Mohamad.

Asyraf extended the lead for Johor. This time, he added 3 more points from the penalty kick. Johor leaded Kelantan 10 – 0 on the half hour mark.

Kelantan did not let their head drop with that big margin. They finally grabbed their first three points from the penalty. Mohammad Nazreen Fitri cooly converted the penalty as Kelantan reduce the margin 10 – 3 with 3 minutes to go. The scoreline remained until the end of the first half.

Both teams tried to out do one another but Johor had the break as they scored their second and last try of the match on 52 minutes mark. Flanker, Hashraffuddin Basir finished a fine move as Johor extended the gap to 15 – 3.

Kelantan responded to that try to minutes later with their own try. Mohamad Khairiseri Ismail scored Kelantan first try of the match as they tried to get back into the match.

Both teams had their chance to add more points afterward but they failed to capitalize and took their chance.

Johor as the Group B champion will face Negeri Sembilan at Padang A, UPM on the 21st August 2017. This win over Kelantan certainly put them as one of the favorites to go all the way and improved from last year result. They were runner-up in the 2016 Edition which took place in Sandakan, Sabah.

Kelantan meanwhile will face Terengganu at MBPJ Stadium on the same date. The clash of the east coast is one of the quarter final match to look for.
