13 August 2017 – Negeri Sembilan booked their quarter final spot as they beat PDRM in the last group C match. Both teams suffered the loss to Terengganu in their first group match and needed to win this crucial match in order to advance to the next round. Both teams had a nervy start as both tried to avoid doing the mistake.
Negeri Sembilan first to break the deadlock. Their fullback, Danial Azhar Roslan calmly completed the penalty to give NS 3 points lead. Sae Faalupega tied the match in the 25th minutes after he converted the penalty for Police.
Although they played with one man down after Azri Mahmud was yellow carded, Police took the surprise lead. Sae Faalupega showed his importance to the team as he scored the first try of the match as police lead 8 – 3. Negeri Sembilan did not back down. Their effort to get back into the match was fruitful at the end of the first half. Winger, Mohd Amir Shafiq Maddah scored the equalizer try in the 40th minutes. The first half ended in all square, 8 – 8.
The match was pretty much settled on 50th minutes. 2 quick tries in the space of four minutes proved to be the difference between both teams. Vuete Godro Sekulu scored NS second try of the match before Emori Yaqona Baleisuva scored their third try a few minutes later. Mohamed Aiman Fariz who came on in the 10th minutes of second half completed both conversions as NS took commanding 22 – 8 lead.
Police made 5 substitutions in order to keep the team fresh and find way back into the game. They however only managed to add more points with a minute to go before the final whistle. Juhaimi Jasmin who came on with 25 minutes to go scored the consolation try. Sae Faalupega completed 2 more points from the conversions but it was all too late for Police.
Negeri Sembilan will face the toughest test in the quarter final as they will meet last year runner-up, Johor in the quarter final. The match will take place at Padang A, Universiti Putra Malaysia on 21st August 2017.
