Kelantan knocked Perlis out.
29 July 2017 – Kelantan recorded the biggest win in the match week one of the 2017 Agong Cup in Padang A, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Kelantan took full control in the game from the start until the end. Kelantan demolished Perlis 85 – 3.
The win was expected prior to the match but the total domination by the team from the East Coast is certainly something to look forward to another team in the competition. Perlis did their best to contain Kelantan early in the match. It stayed draw for the first 15 minutes with Perlis also have their chance to break the dead lock.
Maikeli Toga capitalized from a weak kick by the Perlis backline to score Kelantan first try. It was Kelantan all the way from that moment as they scored 4 more tries and completed 3 more conversions. Perlis managed to stole 3 points as Muhammad Faisal Masri completed a penalty in the dying second.
Perlis who only registered and had 20 players available for this match did not able to stop Kelantan from keep coming at them in the second half. The first half demolition clearly kill Perlis spirit and game plan.
Kelantan added another 8 tries and 7 successful conversions in the second half. Import duo Maikeli Toga and Ratu Peni Buketeivalu Tubuna had a great game today as they contribute 3 tries each in the match. Mohammad Nazreen Fitri also had an excellent day as he completed six conversions.
Kelantan certainly benefited from Syahir Asraf Rosli, the national team captain as he orchestrated the team both in attack as well as in defense
Both Perlis and Kelantan will have another game in the group match, against 2016 runner-up Johor. Perlis will welcome Johor next week while Kelantan will travel to Kota Tinggi to face Johor a week later.
