14 July 2017 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) meet the pre-tournament expectation as they will meet in the final of MASUM. Both team pretty much strolled through out the tournament as they comfortably beat their opponent in the semi final today.
Both team are playing on the top tier of Malaysia rugby league with UiTM finished as the semi-finalist while UPM lost to the tournament champion, in the quarter-final
Either team biggest threat in the tournament is Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (IIUM) as they are they only team who managed to score more than one try against UPM and UiTM.
UPM beat the host Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in the first semi-final. They are in control from the beginning to as they end the match with comfortable 29 – 5 win.
UiTM on the other hand record a much bigger win in the second semi-final. They demolished Universiti Malaya 47 – 7. However, that did not match with what UPM did over UM in the group stage as UM lost 6 – 57 to UPM. Although suffered a heavy defeat in their last group match, UM reached the semi-final by beating Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) 17 – 5 in the quarter-final match.
UPM have the greater points scored after 4 matches as they scored 223 and only let the opponent to have 25. UiTM on the other hand recorded 176 points and let 42 points. With that in consideration, UPM looks like the favourite for the tittle.
