Udt unsure on ELITE 7s participation.

13 July 2017 – Fairuz Abdul Rahman who is better known as Udt among Malaysia rugby fans and friends is still unsure on his participation at the ELITE 7s this coming weekend. Udt suffered an injury which limits him to just one appearance during the recent Asia Rugby Championship Division 1 in Ipoh. Malaysia went on to win the championship as they won all the three matches.

Fairuz suffered Medical Collateral Ligament Injury grade 2 as Malaysia beat the United Arab Emirates on match day 1. That injury forced him to come off with 20 minutes to go in the second half. Udt completed 3 conversions and a penalty to contribute 9 points for Malaysia in that match before the injury. Udt is still nursing the injury and still need to fulfill another appointment with the Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) to update and monitor his knee development.

Fairuz supposes to be the key player for Keris Conlay setup. He leads the team to win the AirAsia Malaysia Rugby League which lead him to win the best player in the final.

The 32 years old experience could be vital for the team. He played for 6 years in Malaysia 7s setup in the Asia Rugby 7s Series from 2008 until 2014 with another countless tournament for both national team and club within that year. Fairuz last 7s tournament was back in April where he leads SAHOCA to reach the semi-final before the were beaten by the current Malaysia 7s setup.

Keris Conlay is still one of the team to beat in the ELITE 7s as they still can field in the likes of Mohd Akmal Abd Manaf, Noor Azmi bin Saruman and Muhammad Sharil Riduan bin Effendy. Conlay is in Group A alongside Bunga Raya Junior, NS Wanderers and Singa Malaya from Singapore.

The ELITE 7s will take place at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya with the first match for both day will start at 10.00am. You can also watch the knockout round match live at http://tvcentral.my/rugby-elite-7s-2017/

We wish Fairuz to have a speedy recovery.
