SSTMI swipe Salbros 7’s

14 April 2017 – SSTMI Tsunami matched their sport school status when they cruised and won the Salbros 7’s tittle. 24 rugby – high performance schools from all over the Malaysia took part in the tournament which took place at the Stadium Juara, Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail. SSTMI beat their rival, SMK Sri Mersing from Johor in the final.

The tournament was organised as part of the National Rugby Development Program saw a lot of young talented rugby player showed their ability in the seven sided tournament. SSTMI who played host was in Group A. They won both of their group matches and comfortably dispatch SBPI Kubang Pasu and SMKA Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab to finish top of the group A.

SMK Sri Mersing also cruised in the group match when they overcame KDAP Abdillah and MRSM Kuching withount conceding a single points. They finish top of Group F.

Both SSTMI and Sri Mersing play their best rugby in the knock out round en route to final. SSTMI beat Sains Selangor while Sains Tuanku Jaafar unable to provide enough trouble to Sri Mersing. The biggest challenge for both team came in Quarter Final. SSTMI needed to work extra hard to overcome English College. Sri Mersing also played on another level to overcoma SMK Sultan Yahya Petra 1 from Kelantan. In the Semi final, SSTMI did not much have problem as they beat King Edwards VII while Sri Mersing book their final spot when they demolished SBPI Gombak.

SSTMI had a better start in the final and that’s made the different. SSTMI had their first try as early as in 2nd minute. They secure three more tries later and convert 2 conversions to comfortably lead 24 – 0 in the first half.

Sri Mersing did make the come back in the second half. They showed what they capable of and managed to score two tries and complete a conversion.

To make things sweeter for SSTMI, their player,Mohd Hafizie Bin Sudin also won the best player award and received cash and trophy.

Dato Haji Ahmad Tajuddin bin Jab, Timbalan Ketua Pengarah Pelajaran Malaysia (Operasi Pendidikan) Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia who was presented during the final presented the trophy and medals to the winner.
