18 February 2017 – Malaysia Women had a brilliant second day at the Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy 2017 in Vientiane, Laos. Malaysia started the day in fourth place after a win and 2 losses during the opening day. Malaysia first match of the day was against the tournament host, Laos.
Malaysia comfortably dispatched Laos 26 – 5. Normasyirah Zahari provided 11 points in this match as she complete 3 conversions and a try. Another 3 Malaysia tries were from Fidelia Limang Telajan, Norfarahana Aziz and Wan Zufirah Mohd Nasir who score a try each.
Malaysia then show domination as they crushed Nepal 54 – 0 in the second match of the day. Norfarahana Aziz scored 3 tries in this match while Euphrasia Anne Carlis and Henrietta David scored two each. Wan Zufirah Mohd Nasir added another one with Normasyirah Zahari completed 5 conversions. Stancy Ling Engan added another 4 points from 2 successful conversions.
Malaysia Women ended the tournament in style as they overcame Pakistan 40 – 0 in the last match. Fidelia Limang Telajan scored 3 tries with Normasyirah Zahari and Henrietta David have one each. Normasyirah Zahari had another 8 points from 4 successful conversions.
Malaysia ended the tournament in third place to earn Bronze. South Korea is the tournament champion after they win all 6 matches as they also overcome India 29 – 0 in the last match of the tournament which decide first and second place.
Normasyirah Zahari is the tournament highest complete conversion with 13. Fidelia Liming Telajan tied with South Korea, Minhui Lee and Hupi Majhi as the tournament top try, all with 6 tries each. Normasyirah Zahari also in the second place in overall total point with 41 from 3 tries and 13 conversions, just one behind Minhui Lee from South Korea who had 42.
Malaysia were also the second best team in disciplinary as the only picked up 1 yellow card through out the tournament. South Korea ended the tournament clean without and card.
