Father against son in Melaka

5 February 2018 – A family was divided into two for 60 minutes as a son played against his father and his elder brother in Melaka. The Bowl semi-final between XMoruc and UiTM Strait Hawks in 2018 Melaka Rugby League saw Xmoruc came out victorious and advance to the Bowl final.

19 years old Adeeb Adliey faced his 21 years old brother Aliff Najmiey as well as his 46 years old father, Mohd Nazir who played for XMoruc. Adeeb’s UiTM unable to use their mobility as XMoruc dominated and beat them 20 – 7. The match took place at the KV Melaka Tengah.

XMoruc will face EXSEL in the Bowl Final. That match will be held at KV Melaka Tengah on 10 February. Kick off will be at 4.30pm

It is always great to see the father figure of Mohd Nazir influence his two sons to follow his footstep to play rugby.

Elsewhere, Politeknik Merlimau fired warning as they continue their fine display in Melaka League. The Hornets overcame another top team, Highlanders 49 – 12. Sufi Mustaqim was their top performers as he scored one try as well as completed 3 conversions.

Universiti Teknikal Melaka narrowly beat Boys of Merlimau in the earlier kick-off. A conversion made the difference as UTEM beat BOM 7 – 5.

Melaka Curtain Raiser 15s to prepare Melaka Under 18 team.

13 January 2018 – Melaka starts their early preparation for the upcoming MSSM rugby 2018. They will be having the 2018 Melaka Curtain Raiser Rugby Cup 15s. This tournament also symbolizes the start of rugby season in Melaka.

8 school from all over Melaka will compete in the 15s format. This tournament is set for the Under 18 age group. Players will have the chance to impress the coaching team to represent MSSM Melaka team in the MSSM Tournament which will take place in March. Pahang will be the host for 2018 edition after Perak host them in 2017.

The 3rd Edition of Melaka Curtain Raiser Rugby Cup 15s will see Melaka High School in Group A alongside SMK Munshi Abdullah, MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba, and SMK Telok Mas. Group B will consist of SM Sains Muzaffar Syah, SMK Seri Tanjong, MRSM Alor Gajah as well as the tournament host, KV Melaka Tengah.

The one-day tournament will give an early indication for Melaka on how they will set up their MSSM team soon. The MSS Melaka Under 18 tournament will take place on 20 February. That will be the time Melaka to complete their team.

The idea to create the Melaka Curtain Raiser Rugby Cup 15s was from the Ex-Senior Supervisor for Sports, JPN Melaka who is also a coach as well as a referee, Tuan Haji Kamaruddin bin Othman, better known as Cikgu KO among friends. This 3rd edition is organized by the JPN Melaka with the collaboration of Melaka Rugby.

Young Melaka ruggers profited from Under 19 team

8 December 2017 – Young Melaka ruggers took full advantage of Malaysia Under 19-second phase training. They had a mini rugby clinic with the young national team earlier this evening.

The young hibiscus is having their final preparation at Politeknik Merlimau, Melaka. 50 players from all over Melaka made their way to Kolej Vokasional Melaka Tengah to join the clinic set up by the Malaysia Under 19 players on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) capacity.

It always a good thing for players to share their knowledge as pass it to the younger players who will take their responsibility to represent the nation in the future.

The focus of the clinic was in the specific position where players should be able to have a better understanding of the task and their responsibility for the position that they play.

Mohamad Nazeer Mohd Nasherah, the head coach for the young national team also gave numbers of tips during the session. It was a good session for them to received guidance from the young upcoming coach who has achieved a lot in his coaching career.

This CSR was held in conjunction with the upcoming Melaka Rugby 10s Close Championship from 9 – 10 December 2017.

The 25 players will fly to Manila in few days time to take part in the upcoming Asia Rugby Championship Under 19 – Division 1.

Malaysia will face the United Arab Emirates in the tournament semifinal on 13th December 2017. The winner of the match will face either South Korea or the host, Philippines in the final which is scheduled to take place 3 days later. All the matches will take place at the Manila International School.

Johor RA just too strong

20 November 2017 – No team can match Johor Rugby Academy physical and speed in the Melaka Under 16 15s Invitational Tournament. It was all about JRA from the beginning. Under the management of Mr. Najmulhuda, they showed their well-drill tactical and discipline to dismantle their opponent at the Padang Kolej Vokasional Melaka Tengah.

Powered by five players, Md Hazim Nor Ismail, Md Faiq Aslah, Md Arief Duharis, Ahmad Zulhilmi and Noor Hidayad who represented Malaysia 7s Under 16 during the Cockburn 7s, JRA certainly in their own class. They showed no mercy as they put Kolej Islam Sultan Alam Shah (KISAS) to the sword with 70 – 0 win in their first match.

JRA strolled past Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Kubang Pasu (IKUPS) in the second match. They started strongly to score 3 early tries to comfortably lead in the first half. With the game in hand, they made numbers of changes but still managed to add points as they beat IKUPS 22 – 0.

KL Saracens unable to provide any trouble for the hot favorite. JRA finished the group stage on fire with 85 – 0 win over the Kuala Lumpur based team to keep their 100% record.

Players from SMK Seri Mersing and Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar who have been dominating the Under 16 tournament all over Malaysia certainly created a very strong foundation for Johor Rugby Academy. Under the guidance of their head coach, Mr. Abdul Hanis Mokhta, they faced no trouble in the semi-final, as they trashed Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Jempol (INTEJ) 43 – 0.

It was the rematch in the final as IKUPS shocked tournament host, Melaka Juniors in the semi-final. IKUPS scored last-minute try and conversion to beat Melaka Junior 19 – 17 to advance to the final. Melaka Juniors unable to repeat their win over INTEJ during the group match. INTEJ finished third as they scored 4 tries to beat host 20 – 17.

Mohammad Hazim Nor Ismail, JRA pack leader stormed pass IKUPS players

IKUPS gave everything they got in the final but Johor Rugby Academy proved to be just way too strong for them. JRA pack leader, Mohammad Hazim Nor Ismail drove the team forward as they scored 8 tries and 7 conversions in the final. JRA dismantled IKUPS 54 – 0 in the final to lift the trophy. To make it sweeter, JRA did not let any team got pass them throughout the championship.

Melaka Rugby Union presidents, Mr Hameed Bin M. K Basheer was at the match to present the championship trophy to Johor Rugby Academy captain, Mohammad Faiq Aslah.
