All THOR final

16 July 2018 – The finale of STI 7s Under 13 – Tun Ismail Cup saw Tun Hussein Onn Rugby (THOR) dominated the final match. The pre-tournament favourite sent two teams and both teams made it to the final cup match.

Both THOR teams cruised in the group game with 100% record. THOR B even shocked top-seeded, SMK Seri Mersing in the group match to snatch the top spot in the group A with 24 – 0 win in the opening match of the tournament. THOR A also had an impressive run as they scored more than 40 points in all 3 group matches.

The tournament host, SMK Tun Ismail set the early tone as they scored whopping 164 points to top Pool D. Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor Baharu showed their domination in Pool C as they had 22 tries in 3 matches.

STI who was ranked 1st after the group stage started the second day in fine fashion as they overcame 8th ranked Unikorn DC in the quarter-final. Both THOR teams booked their semi-final spot with impressive wins over SMK Seri Mersing and High School Batu Pahat. The 4th team in the semi-final belong to Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar who sneak their way over Johor Pirates Under 12 in the last quarter-final match.

THOR B team was too good for the host as they scored 4 tries in 24 – 5 win and book the spot in the final. The THOR main team make sure that it was all THOR final as they scored 5 tries over their rival, Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar with 29 – 0 win in the second semi-final.

Facing familiar faces, both THOR teams tested one another but the A team stood tall after the final whistle with 22 – 5 win over their brother. The winner brought home trophy and medals. The principle of SMK Tun Ismail, Haji Ahmad bin Isman spend his Saturday afternoon to present the trophy to the winner.

The host also held their head up as they secured the top spot when they overcame Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar 22 – 7 in the 3rd/4th place match.

The tournament director, Ahmad Taufiq Abdul Rahani has a high hope “We wish to organise this tournament annually. I really hope to welcome more teams from all over Malaysia to come and participate in the future.”

15 teams from Johor participate in this year edition with one team from Putrajaya. The tournament also saw 2 Under 12 teams and they made it into cup quarter-final.
