SRU to take responsibility in Under 20

5 July 2018 – Sabah Rugby Union (SRU) will take the responsibility to send their whole team and represent Malaysia in the Asia Rugby 7s Under 20. The annual tournament will take place at the Kings Park Stadium in Hong Kong.

SRU will send their Women Under 20 team to represent Malaysia. It is not the first time for SRU to take such action as in 2017, SRU sends the whole Women Under 17 squad to the United Arab Emirates to represent Malaysia.

Sabah will take the full responsibility to bear all the team cost during the tournament. An insider also informed us that although SRU will have to manage all cost, they still have to follow all the guideline given to them by MRU especially in term of sponsorship to avoid any conflict.

Last month, Malaysia Rugby Union (MRU) received the application from SRU after the news that Malaysia will take the decision to pull out from the tournament. The upcoming SUKMA game believed to be the reason for the decision. However, Sabah will likely to use this tournament as another preparation for the upcoming SUKMA with their target to bag gold in Ipoh.

On the other side of the story, there’s no news of the Men Under 20 participation in Hong Kong. The men team finished in the 6th position out of 10 teams while the Women team was ranked 6th out of 7 competing team.

The Asia Rugby 7s Under 20 tournament will be held form 10 to 11 August 2018 at the King’s Park Stadium, Hong Kong
