Malaysia to face Japan

5 July 2018 – Malaysia 7s team is in the same group with the Asia number 1 team in the upcoming Asia Games. Malaysia is in the Pool B for the Games which will take place in Indonesia.

11 teams have confirmed their participation in the game. All the nation is being divided into 3 group on four where group C consist only 3 teams.

Malaysia will certainly fancy the chance to go through as they will take on Japan, Chinese Taipei and the host Indonesia in the group B. Japan will be the toughest task for any team in Asia as they won the Asia Sevens Series in 2017 as well as competing at the highest rank in World Rugby 7s Series.

The Hibiscus ended the Asia Sevens Series in the 7th position ahead of Chinese Taipei who finished last. Based on last year performance, Malaysia should not face much trouble against the host as Malaysia cruised to 75 – 0 win over Indonesia in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

Malaysia 7s head coach, Saizul Hafifi convinced, “We should be able to win at least two matches and through to the quarter-final. We will take one game at a time and we hope we can achieve our goal.”

The rugby 7s game will be held on Wibawa Mukti Stadium, Beraksi from 30th August to the 1st September 2018.
