Sarawak Girl completed 1st training camp

16 January 2018 – Sarawak U21 Women team has completed their first training camp. The team is still in the first phase of selecting the 12 players for the upcoming 2018 SUKMA Perak.

The 5 days camp took place at the Curtin University in Miri. 20 players joined the camp. They are under the guidance of coach Sylvia Alexander Lian & Nacani Seniu.

Majority of the 20 players come from the Letto Rhinos – Miri Division Rugby Association Development for Women. The team assistant manager, Noraida Ibrahim shared that the players need to join more tournament in order to gain more match experience and exposure. They will keep on training in Miri with the boys’ team. The rest of the players who are still studying will keep on training on their own and will join the team as soon as they are on the semester break.

The Sarawak team will certainly benefit from the experience of their scrumhalf, Cindy John. The 20 years old was part of the Malaysia Bronze medal team in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

Only 12 players will be on the flight to Ipoh, Perak this 15 – 16 September 2018. Sarawak could be one of the team to watch to bag Gold with this early preparation. 2018 SUKMA Perak will see the Under 21 teams competing for both Men and Women categories.
